I know this is not a RF posting, but it might be of interest to this group.

If you happen to have a print copy of today's New York Times, take a look at the group shot of the photographers in the Alito hearings -- in the corner there is a what appears to be a Crown Graphic or some other LF field camera. Nice to know we aren't the only old foggies out there! (Of course, the guy is also holding some super fancy long lens SLR, but still . . .)

I can't see the photo you're referring to in the online version of the Times, but could it be photographer David Burnett?

He covered the 2004 US presidential elections with a Speed Graphic and a monster Kodak Aero Ektar 7 inch f 2.5 (former bomber camera) lens. Fascinating stuff and fascinating results!

Does the hand strap on my Speed Graphic get me in the PJ's club? 🙂 Maybe "King Kong" rangefinders are in "style" again. 😀

I believe it's caused more by DOF issues when using his 7" Aero Ektar f/2.5 wide open. There's not much in the way of movements available on a Speed Graphic. Still the two issues together are probably what he uses to create his effects. I'm also sure that film choice plays a part - I've read that he prefers to use Tri-X and VC160.

If he shot that with his Aero Ektar, I agree. I believe the Aero Ektar covers about 5x5, so not much room for movements. He could wiggle it a bit.

Or, he could crop afterwards 🙂
