Large format rangefinder forum?

I would love to include myself in this possible fourm. I use a Crown with a 6x12 roll back. As for the giant TLR fourm, we would have very few posters but lots of lookers....I use a Great 5 x 7 TLR called a Macvan that shoots 2 up on a 5 x 7 sheet.

Well, my Polaroid 110B "4x5 Frankencamera" has arrived and looks to be working fine with Polaroid film and the included 545 back.

I'd like to try out some non-Polaroid film... does anyone have any experience with Quickload or Readyload sheets in the Polaroid back?

Cool! Looks like a giant Mamiya C! Is that a Gowlandflex?

Yes it is, got it a couple of months ago, and I just love it! Not very portable, but it`s a joy shooting large format film handheld.

I use both Readyloads and Quickloads in my 545i holder, haven`t had any problems so far.

Bump.

Any chance of us getting this forum, Jorge? I've been noticing a bit more LF activity here, so it would be nice to have a little corner for such discussions.

Thanks,

William

You don't want to put Readyloads/Quickloads in Polaroid holders. Polaroid holders have a different film plane distance than Fuji and Kodak holders.

Another Linhof user here--4x5" Tech V and I recently acquired a 6x9 Tech V. I haven't had my lenses cammed for the little one yet, but should be soon. I'd follow a LF/RF forum if there was one.

Here are some handheld 4x5" shots that may be familiar to participants on the LF forum and APUG--

Welcome to RFF, David!

I also use a 6x9 Tech V or more precisely its rangefinder-less but otherwise identical sister model the so called Study Camera 70. I have a Symmar-S 100/5.6 in Compur shutter for this camera. I only shoot with the 6x7 Super-Rollex back since there is no slide projector for 6x9 slides. I like the compactness of this setup.

Hopefully the forum could include plain LF cameras as well. I have a Crown Graphic but the rangefinder was long gone when I got it. I have a really stout left hand grip that I attach and when so equipped is easily used handheld. I went street shooting with it in downtown Tucson a few months ago.

I also have a fixed focus wide angle 4x5 body I built for use with my 90mm Schneider lens. A sort of "Point n'Shoot" writ large.

I would be very interested in an LF forum. For what seems to be the most basic of cameras there are an amazing aray of things to consider when using one. I would welcome the discussion and observations about this too rapidly vanishing format.

I wonder when Fotoman are going to release their handheld large-format cameras? They will have helicoid focusers and you can get an accessory rangefinder on ebay for a good price. And the Cambo Wide is a nice camera as well.

BTW, here is a well hiden review on accessory rangefinders:

I have not heard of any large-format campanies going bust? I did hear that Deardorff is back though and Fotoman is entering the market...maybe.

No, camera shake is not a problem. I use a 6x12 camera regularly handheld and have used a 4x5 press camera as well. Camera shake is more related to field of view than focal length. It is just at 35mm that focal length and field of view coincide to make an easy inverse guideline. It is true that a 4x5 press camera is a little more awkward if you are not use to it.

Camera shake? From a leaf shutter on a on a press camera? No problem at all, really, or at least no more of a problem than it is with other rangefinder cameras.

The Speed Graphic with its focal plane shutter has some shutter vibration, but most of the clunk comes after the exposure.

Now, my 5x7" Press Graflex SLR (these were common around 1910-20) with a mirror and focal plane shutter is another story, but it's not as bad as you would think. The mirror makes a fairly soft landing, and the shutter is capable of 1/1500 sec.

used to own a busch pressman D. sold it a while ago, but missed the view camera thing...so i got a linhof super technika III recently. still need to take 'er out for the maiden voyage. only problem is i just have the rangefinder cam for the lens it came with, so i'll have to use the ground glass when shooting w/ my other lenses.
