Last 100 Noctili

That packaging is absurd. Glad I bought mine for $2300 used in a little leather Leica pouch and cardboard box. You can keep the pine coffin for the extra $7.5K.

/T

That is one freaking swank box.
Beautiful packaging, even if i'm saddened by the fact that anyone who purchase that will likely never attach it to a camera.
Still, very well thought out and executed for the collectors market.

Does anybody else think that this is about the most tasteless end for the Noctilux? Leica made a humidity-controlled coffin for the damn thing. What a disgrace!

Well, one can take the lens out of the box, mount it on a slightly worn looking standard M Leica (or RD-1s, ZI, Hexar RF) and use it. Nobody will realize the $$$$ ...

Step one: Take lens out of controlled environment box.

Step two: Throw away box.

Step three: Use lens.

I use the lense on a nearly daily basis. That they are discontinuing it is fair enough, but to create a sales-pitch where they pretty much guarantee that Leica photographers are going to be denied the use of the last 100 of these (what % of regular annual production is that btw?) is criminal for a company that makes some of the world's best glass. I understand the business logic (of making a killing), but it still makes me sad...

But who knows, maybe there'll be some crazies out there who will use it (like I did with my MP-3 set after packing up the box, and loading it with HP5) :D

kaufmann is a genius. with 100 guaranteed sales at 10000 euros, they can quadruple their revenue with minimal labour costs!

what would they charge for the last 100 MPs or M7s? i wonder.

I can't really see the problem. If people want to and are able to spend 15-16 grand on a lens what does it matter whether they use it or not. That's their choice. Some people pay 15-16 million for a painting and stick it in a safe. I expect they'll sell out quickly which makes it a good marketing decision by Leica. Definitely not for me though.
