In 2001 I won a Leica IIIa with Summar. It did not arrive and the seller could not prove he shipped and I got my money back (paid via postal money order)..

Last Saturday (7/11) this camera arrived. It turns out the package made it to my local post office in 2001 but for whatever reason was not delivered to me and since it did not have a return address it sat at the P.O. till Saturday when they finally got around to delivering it.

I have tried to find the seller through eBay but he seems to have dropped off the face of the planet so I am unable to send him the money. I'll keep trying to find him but have my doubts that I will so I now have a nice working (it actually still works after sitting 8 years  ) IIIa that I'll have to take out this weekend and film test it.. :) :) :)

Maybe you can check Facebook, ;-)

Have had some strange stories of my own on delayed deliveries, but not by 8 years, people have probably transferred and retired. Congrats to them for admitting they had it and finally delivering it.

Am assuming it was not registered, lose one of those, and generally, you lose your job.

Hope the guy got some sort of insurance.

May need a CLA from sitting. ;-)

Regards, John

As I recall he was in the Air Force so he could be pretty much anywhere.

Not registered it was sent priority mail though.

I doubt it since it was not shipped insured. He did not even give a return address..

I suspect it will but even the slow speeds sounded good right out of the box and the curtains look good..

lucky bastid

I figure 8 years is enough to absolve any hidden guilt... otherwise, just go take pictures

I was surprised to say the least when I opened the box..

Haven't lost any sleep yet...

That is pretty impressive. I could only imagine the conversation with the employee who found it at the post office with a delivery date of 2001.

The Postmaster is doing an investigation. Someone could get in trouble...

you won't get in trouble -- and from having dealt with the post office, they won't either

Sounds like the usual Government coverup...

Maybe the cleaning lady found it behind a shelf or locker..

Careful Ed, you wouldnt want to get in trouble for knowingly misrepresenting yourself as a federal employee. :)

Colyn - That is pretty awesome. Glad it seems to be in working order! Please post some pics when you get a chance.

I'm more worried about knowingly knowing about an alleged coverup than any potential misrepresentation of my acutal status as a government representative! :p

:)

Can you get in trouble for misrepresenting yourself as a politician? ;-)

Remember, Big Brother is reading all posts.
