I'm getting good at being patient for good Amazon deals.

"Irving Penn: Centennial". I'm normally not much for studio photography and portraiture but I'm really enjoying this book.

"Local Objects" by Tim Carpenter. This is one of those instances where you really have to like this kind of photography. I do.

"Van Der Zee: Photographer 1886 to 1983". It's an old book and I do wish the reproductions were better. Still, another instance of studio/portrait photography that I've now started to really appreciate.

America's Cool Modernism, O'Keeffe to Hopper
This is the catalogue to an exhibition currently showing at the Ashmolean Museum, Oxford. Apart from a wonderful section of paintings there are also photographs by Steiglitz, Cunningham, Strand and others. I think this exhibition is superb and the catalogue is beautifully produced with many essays, as well as biographies of all of the artists.

Thanks for the heads up Lawrence - I've ordered the catalogue from bookdepository (around GBP17, less than the museum's book shop GBP25). Looking forward to reading it.

Cheers,

Sounds good, but the publication date is listed as 24 Jul 2018 (same as on Amazon)!

They sent me an email saying it was in stock. The website says it's available, and they accepted my order. The publication date has been shifted back several times already over the past 6+ months.

Clement Cheroux's "Henri Cartier-Bresson" came in the mail yesterday. I haven't had a chance to look at it other than thumbing through it at random--too much going on right now.

The Band

The Band

Elliott Landy 'The Band Photographs, 1968-1969' published by Backbeat Books.

If you want to see Levon Helm picking his belly button or Richard Manuel staring at his birthday cake as he turns 26, this is the place to come.

"Photo Op" by David Hume Kennerly. Considering that I paid full cover price the first time I owned it, I feel the 25 cents I gave McKay's Books this time was a true bargain.

it arrived - Saul Leiter excelled himself:
