It seems that first wave of prints sold out completely from pre-orders at Steidl directly.
They are finaly catching up now with their deliveries.

Realy something to look forward to it''s stunning! Beautiful books with gorgeous reproductions. Perhaps the most beautiful package i have ever seen. Exceeded my expectations in evey possible way.

Well congratulations! :) I saw a notice on the Steidl site that the book had sold out its first printing and then I saw a copy on sale here in the US for $360 ! Steidl are excellent printers so I'm not surprised that the quality is up there.

Enjoy yours and I hope to be enjoying mine soon. I'll post here when it arrives.

Crist, do you have an ISBN number for his Valparaiso book?

Eagerly awaiting Davidson's "Outside, Inside". Have ordered it and it has been shipped. Must be nice to Jerry, our postie as it is three flights of stairs to our place!

Kenro Izu's "A Thirty Year Retrospective", recently published by Nazraeli Press, is beautiful. Please visit kenroizu.com for examples of this fine photographer's work.

Cuba "Ernesto Bazan" the most amazing book in my home
Many thanks to crist for sparking my interest in Bazan's Cuba. I received a copy earlier this week and the book is tremendous. Bazan's pictures are very insightful and he clearly loves the country and its people. The book is big; 12½" x 10½" and many of the pictures are printed across the spine, so they're big too. A bit too big I think. I've taken to placing the book on a music stand and viewing it from afar because all you see viewing it close-up is grain. Don't get me wrong, this is a brilliant book that I'm recommending as the atmospheric images are quite stunning, I'm just getting my nitpicks out of the way first. ;) Bazan also includes some contact sheets at the beginning of the book and there are handwritten notes interspersed among the pictures. The presentation is different...

To have complete control over the presentation he published it himself, so here are the book details: Cuba by Ernesto Bazan, BazanPhotos Publishing 2008, ISBN 978-09798303-0-3. You can read about the making of the book and see some of the images at his book web site. If you are interested in buying you need to order directly from Ernesto himself at ernesto_bazan AT hotmail.com and he'll send you directions for payment. He printed 3000 copies of the book, 1000 each in English, Italian and Spanish. He tells me the English edition is almost sold out. Highly recommended! Thanks again crist for the pointer! :)

Walker Evans:
Hambourg, Rosenheim, Eklund, Fineman, Metropolitan Museum of Fine Art and Princeton Press
Quarto, Pub: 2000
ISBN: 0 -87099-937-0

this is the first book of Evan's work I've read. It certainly changed my perceptions regarding him based on what I'd read in journals and online. A complex man, a bit vain, a sucker for a pretty face, disdainful of too much formal training and education to become an artist instead of having it from the get go.

He cropped, dodged, burned, repackaged his BW work many times. His street photography was surreptitious and never forthright relying on discreet positioning to avoid being "caught". A dislike of colour in photography prefering BW or hand tinted photographs, yet late in life a full on embracer of Polaroid's SX-70 for it's punchy colours. Using the camera for recording daily images, friends, detritus on the streets plus street signage.

Highly recommended for the photographs as well as the insight into Evans if you haven't read about him previously.

women are beautiful - garry winogrand
ISBN: 0-374-51301-5

took a chance on a "too good to be true" listing. the paperback binding is just starting to get a little loose, so i'll have to be careful, but there are no missing, bent, or stained pages. all for $13! and it only took seven years of checking bookfinder.com every now and then. :)

@Aizan.... only seven years for you to get a 'loose' copy? Will you lend it out while we wait for our chance? I have a feeling I may be waiting a long time.
