Hi All,
Picked up a few recent works as follows:
----------------------------------------------
1. Gordon Parks, Collected Works...
This is large 5 volume Steidl Press edition -- collectible quality hardback with exhibit quality paper & printing (similar in presentation to other Steidl multi volume slip cased collections) -- over a 1000 pages collectively and weighing over 15 lbs! A bit pricey yes, but overall, complete & encompassing coverage of arguable the greatest African American photographer of the 20th century.
----------------------------------------------
2. Nostalgia: The Russian Empire of Czar Nicholas II Captured in Colored
Photographs by Sergei Mikhailovich Prokudin-Gorskii
This one came as a surprise to me, as I didn't know what to expect exactly -- just immensely fascinating to witness the beginnings of color photography develop from Russia. Sergei Mikhailovich Prokudin-Gorskii began his journey to capture all of Russia in color images on behalf of the czar, and the content presented is breath taking. You can read more on this title via the Amazon description, but take my word, just a visual treat for the eyes. Highly, highly recommended.
-------------------------------------------------
3. War/Photography: Images of Armed Conflict and Its Aftermath (Museum of Fine Arts, Houston)
Another winner here -- superb presentation of some of the most acclimated, awarded, and ultimately moving war photos in human history. You've likely already have seen many of the photos presented here in previous documentations published on war photography before, but the overall scope, quality printing, paper, and binding make this a personal favorite. If war photography has a draw to you, please check this one out!
-------------------------------------------------
4. The Centre Cannot Hold, David Gulden
Excellent black & white photos of African animals taken in their natural habitat -- some truly excellent & inspiring work here. If you're a fan of Nick Brandt, Peter Beard, etc, I can recommend this piece. If you love Africa, and enjoy the wildlife there, I can only say, go get it...you will not be disappointed.

Thanks Chris ....
This thread causes me more grief than any other.![]()
Yours come yet Michael?

I withdraw comments about posthumous editing I made previously. The extensive articles in this new book are excellent and make a good case for a re-examination of Winogrand.
Highly recommended for both text and photographs.

Totally agree. Previously, I would have had reservations about something like this. But about a year ago, when I first heard that Rubinfien was doing this, I knew it would be something interesting. This show brings a lot to light and was most needed.

Magnum Magnum. I like calling it the behemoth, because that's basically what it is. I really like the book. Nothing special, but kind of a nice overview book to have.
Nigel Parry - Sharp. Some nice portraits. I have yet to check it out completely, but it was really cheap, so why not?

I found a very nice copy of "Nagel" The Art of Patrick Nagel
It's a 1987 First Edition paperbound version...the looks are very much dated but the posing is still worth studying...
I found it at a church rummage sale for $2.00

Isn't it always the case, they all come at once?

Accidentally ordered two copies of Mike Brodie's Period of Juvenile Prosperity so one goes on the shelf still in the shrink wrap. Can't think of a recently published book as good as his.
Mary Ellen Mark's Ward 81 should arrive next week.
Edited to add that with no thanks to this forum, I just impulse purchased the Winogrand book on Amazon.
