The Audrey and Sydney Irmas Collection
It would appear that this is the catalogue for an Exhibition at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art in 1994.
There is a tag in the front of the book noting that the catalogue was presented as a benefit of the recipient's membership with the LACMA.

My copy of Genesis arrived from Amazon yesterday - even though Amazon still lists as not yet released. So if you have one on preorder it should arrive earlier than estimated originally.
It is a big, heavy, handsome volume. My only disappointment (not unique to this book certainly) is that many prints span two pages and thus have a fold in the middle - I would have preferred nothing interrupt the flow of each image.
But it matters little, I am completely taken in by the book and was not able to put it down until late into the night. Ok, I'm not a great photographer by any means but it isn't typical for me to look at someone else's work and hear a little creeping voice in my head that says I should just stick to snapshots of friends and family..... In reality though, to parse his images in terms of technique or personal inspiration misses the point and indeed, any such thoughts quickly dissipated as I was completely drawn in to the story this collection weaves.
FWIW, a big thumbs up from me.

"Lament for a Nation: the defeat of Canadian nationalism". Written in 1965, a friend reminded me of it from my youth so I picked up the 40th Anniversary edition. Reading it anew after all these years.
Given the title, the book is actually a great argument FOR Canadian nationalism and identity! That and Trudeaumania, eh?

We will be back in SF at the end of October for the Leica Historical Society's annual meeting. Probably drive down again. Much easier to carry books back that way!

"The Holy Bible" by Broomberg and Chanarin - winners of the 2013 Deutsche Borse contemporary photography prize. One edition sold out before it was even published!
http://www.mackbooks.co.uk/books/68-Holy-Bible.html
For those unaware of Broomberg and Chanarin, they are among the most important and high profile politically engaged photographic artists in the UK, and have been commenting on war in their recent works. "The Holy Bible" continues this trajectory, linking religion and war by juxtaposing photographs of sexual violence, suicides, Nazis, terrorism, soldiers and the like with pages from the Bible showing underlined passages. Definitely controversial, and doubtless blasphemous to some, Broomberg and Chanarin imply a direct parallel between the violence of the bible and the violence of the modern state and governments.
It's a companion work to their previous book, a reworking of Bertolt Brecht's "War Primer" - a critique of the Second World War published in the 1950s. Brecht had used a bible to jot down notes and paste cuttings into while creating "War Primer".

Just pre-ordered "The Lost Diggers" by Ross Coulthart.
Back in 2010 a great collection of 4000 glass plates was found. They were taken by Louis and Antoinette Thuillier in Vignacourt during WW1. With meticulous research and the help of descendants, Coulthart has been able to discover the stories behind many of the photos, of which more than 330 appear in the book.
I've been following this from since the discovery. Looking forward to seeing this one arrive.

Good to know. I have "The Graves of Tyne Cot", that is based on a similar idea, but where they started out with the graves of the soldiers instead of the photos to discover their history.
