I obtained a copy of Tomas Leach's excellent documentary/introspective video on photographer Saul Leiter, In No Great Hurry, when I was in the UK. It is remarkable.

Just ordered a copy of Saul Leiter's book Early Color. I find his work stunning and his words so deep the ocean is a puddle. All with such humility and good natured objectivity. An amazing person to get to know.

The UK chain Paperchase outlet have Phaidon books on remainder. Just one copy of Snaps left so I snapped it up. (Sorry)
This is the first version originally from 2003 with 512 pages. The re-issue March 2013 is abridged with 245 only. Easily distinguished as the back of the old is the front of the new. Half price will do me nicely.

I just recieved "The Non-Conformists" by Martin Parr for my birthday. It is his early B+W work around Hebden Bridge (I grew up in nearby Huddersfield). I'm loving it, great images put into context well by Susie Parr's narrative.

I don't own many photobooks, but I have gotten 4 since Christmas all as gifts, with some guidance.
Robert Frank "The Americans" One of my all time favorites. Back in school I would check i t out every couple of months.
The new Vivian Maier "Out of the Shadows"
Gregory Heisler "50 Portraits" I really liked it. More about the stories and thought process than technical here is how I lit it.
and "Muhammad Ali" by Flip Schulke. Really interesting read about following a young Cassius Clay training in Miami.

I dithered over whether to get Snaps or Personal Best. (Couldn't really justify getting both.) In the end I went for Personal Best.

Last week I picked up a second-hand 1987 copy of Brassai's Paris by Night.

Henri Cartier-Bresson : Here and Now.

New monograph published to accompany France`s first major retrospective since the photographers death in 2004 .

Latest acquisition is also now my favourite photo book ever: "England Observed" by John Gay.

All B+W work covering much of the 20th century, mostly done with a Rolleiflex and superbly printed.

Regards,
D.

Early Color, Saul Leiter. Only disappoint to find out it is a French edition.

Need some inputs from folks here. How do you take care of your photo books?

I live in a humid country, and I keep all my books away from directly sunlight. I started to see brown spots (due to mold) appearing on some of my hardback non-fiction books. I now put a few small bag of silica gel on my cupboard where most of my non-fictions books sit, and leave the doors open for air-circulation. Currently I left all my photo books on table in the open, with a cloth covering over it. I need to visit ikea to get shelf for my photo books soon.
