Learning from ebay - loading IXMOO

Well I learned something today, from browsing an ebay listing!

Following the recent threads on bulk loading and the Leica reusable IXMOO and FILCA cassettes, I bought a set of IXMOO cassettes which arrived yesterday. Two good and one sticky - it might be bent.

Anyway, in browsing ebay I found this listing (#180139132100) for more Leica cassettes and a compatible bulk loader. Not the Watson 100, but one that looks a lot like mine (Computrol). And it works, albeit with no safety interlock to stop me from forgetting to close the IXMOO before opening the loader. I guess we all have to make that mistake at least once. 😛

I shot my first roll on my Leica and Summicron NR (non rigid) yesterday between shifts. ERA 100. Because of the brilliant sun the most I could open up to was f4 because of the 1/1000 limit.

I managed to get three IXMOO cassettes from a UK seller for just over AU$20 including postage - not too bad for a test run.

To my embarrassment, I seem to have now acquired four bulk loaders; the last two came as package deals with other bits I wanted. One has a little HP5+ left, one has a half-roll of PAN-F which I got cheap locally because it was past-expiry date (and it shows emulsion damage of some sort); one has a new roll of Delta 100 (from B&H) and the last is empty (thank goodness!). I've had a bad run recently with scratches on negatives, and I can't decide if it's the loader or the felt-trap cassettes, so I'm tossing all the old cassettes as they are used, and will buy some new ones. And the IXMOOs which I'll use in the M4.

Loading from bulk is fun, but I've recently discovered Chinese film from Hong Kong. Twenty 36-exposure rolls for $53 including postage is even cheaper than bulk loading.

Just finished developing the first roll from the IXMOO - much to my amazement there is no sign of light leaks! I'll check for scratches later.

With either of the leitz cassettes the FILCA or IXMOO there should be a felt doughnut at one end, or rather there was with most of mine.

Perhaps there should be one at each end never bought a cassette new when I had the chance.

P.S. edit never had leaks attributable to cassettes, and is the Ch film available in bulk?

No sign of any felt in any of the three cassettes I have!

I did get some scratches on the test roll, but I would probably attribute them to the loader rather than the IXMOO. I'll have to black out the bathroom and try loading some straight from the roll.

And no, the Chinese film (ERA 100) is not available in bulk, unfortunately.

With the IXMOO cassette there should be a felt donut in the inner shell. The outer shell won't have one.

Any hobby shop should have sheets of felt with adhesive backing that you can use to cut out donuts

Also be sure to blow out any dust before loading.

Excellent could you tell (every one) how thick to bake it, and do you glue your in place?

I buy the 1/8 inch thick sheets with adhesive backing and stamp out a 22mm circle with a hole punch. The inner circle is cut out using a 12mm hole punch.

The paper backing is removed to expose the adhesive and the new felt is placed into position.
