Another thread touched on this topic and I can't let it pass.

Please post pictures of cameras that are 'left handed' or even those with accessories that put the shutter release in the appropriate position for someone who is left handed (you know who they are).

By 'left handed' I mean cameras with the release on the left when seen from behind. If the film advance is also on the left so well and good.

Holding the camera upside down, although an acceptable gambit for Rollei journos, is cheating.

As a starter, herewith the Welta Weltini which takes some getting used to. Ergonomically it feels like it is upside down but at least the shutter release retracts nicely.

What have you got?

«Cheating»? No, it's fun! 😛

(Particularly with a right angle finder, I very often use my 35mm-SLRs upside down.)

And here I found a quite useful DIY-gimmick:

Not my invention, but quite a good idea I guess 🙂

The Swiss "Alpa" reflexes with advance on "wrong" side.

The advance is on the right side of the camera, the lever just works "backwards" - front to back instead of back to front.

Argus C3 on the other hand, is advanced with a knob on the left, although the shutter is released with a button on the right. Opposite of the Exa which is advanced on the right, but fired on the left.

There are also a number of models that split the wind and release chores between both hands. While not fully left handed, they aren't fully right handed either. These include:
  • Iloca Rapid B / Sear Tower 51 and several minor variants
  • Rollei 35 series
  • Various Leica models with Leicavits attached
  • Several Canon RF models that copy the Leicavit winding method

She Who Must Be Obeyed tells me that the Balda Baldessa 1b is very left-hander friendly. Not sure why, it just seems to work that way.
