Left Handing the M6

Im left handed. Since I bought my M6 there have been occassions where the rangefinder patch would just vanish and I couldn't focus on anything! This problem was really worrying me and it happened again today.. then I noticed this little window on the shutter button side which I hadn't noticed before and I realised that when I hold the camera, my little finger often lands bang smack ontop the window!!

Anyone have a suggestion of how to hold the camera with stability if you focus with your left hand?

Open your left hand (like begging), drop the camera in so that it rests on the palm of your hand, leaving thumb and finger to focus. Now that you know what happens, just remove your finger from the window. It is second nature for any M photographer 🙂

And I thought it was just me...! 😀

Generally, I roll the fingers of my right hand into a pointer fashion and tuck them around the side of the camera body. But now and then my RF spot disappears when I'm trying to get a quick grab shot.

Attached is a pic from the M6 manual - a very similar pic is in the M7 manual so its obviously the "official" Leica hold. 😀 This is actually how I hold my camera - I use the folded 3rd, 4th & 5th fingers as a base for the camera to rest on just like the model in the pic.
