Thanks for the tip. Once I confirmed that Gandy was down with it, I couldn't be stopped.

Beautiful, Walker!!
And congrats merciful! I'm going for a "spotty quality control" J-11 myself...

You went and dunnit. You all made me go and bid on a Canon 135. What do I do if I win it?

take a picture and then send it to me!
seems we may have a run on 135 lenses soon.
i packed my new camera bag with the canon 7 w/ 85 lens attached and put the 135 in there also.
i want to start using them more and see what they/we can do together.

I have found that the longer focal lengths are great for taking pictures of Kids.
Yes, that's a prime reason for my purchase. When I shot digital, I had a nice 70-200/2.8 for my D30 that was beautiful for candid kid shots.

Hey isn't it great when plans just... work ?
Love to see the RFF-brotherhood machine leading to a good end, Merciful, please don't forget to post one or two (or three or four or...) of your wide open shots with it please !
Btw, I 'accidentallly' won one of those Jupiter-11 lenses, have an old Vivitar 135/2.8 in MD mount which I like, but would be interesting to try the Jupiter on the Canon 7.
Do I need a kid to use this lens properly ?

The same type of filter - only mine is yellow.
Denis, your Hektor really does look the same as mine. Sometimes I see one on ebay that is pristine and too nice for words. I have yellow, orange and red filters for it too. The filters are also used on my Elmars.

OK, 3 hours left. EVERYONE, feel free to out bid me on that Canon 135/3.5 LTM lens. It looks really nice. Please, pretty please.
I actually came up with a different idea last night and it relies on the snipping skills of, well, anyone.
It's a really pretty one...

Well, I was side tracked again my the 90 Tele-Elmerit this morning, but that is a passing phase.
I am thinking of finally getting a Kiev 4a. Hopefully the cover will be peeling off so I can cover it in a nice navy blue. If possible I will get one with a J8 and J3. Then I can hunt down a turrit finder, a J12 and J9 and J4.68....
But I have to LOOSE the 135!

oh oh!
another contax clone attraction!
i keep going there myself but have resisted thus far.
for what it's worth, i know a guy locally who has a contax 11a, recently cla'd and working like new and would like to sell it.
i didn't have the nerve to ask the price...

Ask the price.
Why did you do that to me Joe? It most likely will be more than I have to spend, but just in case...
Now I really have to loose that auction!
I really would like a Contax IIa. Is it pretty?

Ralph, the Kiev is really a nice machine.
When my M2 was away on CLA, and before Brian's M3 arrived, I was shooting with my Kiev 4A exclusively for about 2 weeks (see the photo in my gallery of my younger son with a patterned tablecloth
It sure is the camera I'll take with me when I fear Leicas would be damaged...
I can really tell you that Kiev 4A is definitely the camera that I would without hesitation proclaim as THE best-buy of all times. If you get one with reliable shutter, everything else is pretty easy to repair - and even if you send it to someone like Oleg for a CLA, it will definitely cost less than any Leica CLA....
The RF is pretty accurate, and again easy to correct or adjust... My only gripe is small viewfinder. Pretty difficult to use if you wear glasses, too.
I wear glasses, and I often wish the VF was a bit bigger. Another thing - glue some protective material around the VF, so you don't scratch your glasses...
The photo below shows the VF, and the little leatherette "ring" I glued around it - same material as my "custom cover". You can see that the little viewfinder "window" is really small...

Ralph, forget the Contax, and get a Kiev!
I plan on buying directly from Oleg Denis. I figure that will save me a step. I printed off a couple pages from some sites, including the users manual, so I am all set to roll.

the snow must go on
Ralph - you know, if you ever thought of a Contax, you will never forget it. It will haunt you till the moment of your lowest resistance and then it will strike.
There's no way out.
