I just picked up a leica 135mm f4.5 hektor BM.

My plan is to shoot this on Fuji. I grabbed a LM to FX adapter.

My question is as follows:
I would like to find a extension tube to shorten the minimum focal length of this lens. But, I am only Finding current Leica M tubes for crazy prices. What was made back in the day (1950-1960's) for the leica 135mm f4.5 hektor and other bayonet mount / M lenses to do close up shots?

Anyone have a disassemble guide? I can't figure out how to remove it without taking out some screws... I would rather not break it. I notice some photos of this lens don't seem to have the screws in the lens head.

The lens head unscrews just bellow the aperture ring. You can see the joint. ZOOAN is the short mount focusing mount that can be easily found. The head screws into the short mount. ZOOAN is LTM, not LBM. You can use any LTM extension tube you can find.

If you want bellows, Bellows I will not work because of how it mounts. Bellows II is fine, giving infinity to close-up, but they are still rather expensive.

Leitz is the Lord of the Rings. There are a myriad of ring associated with this lens to cover anything that you might want to do.

instead of using a ltm-FX adaptor, why not get an M-FX adaptor? Then it's plug and play.

Focuses pretty close. (Handheld otherwise would be sharper.)

Whats the difference between OTZFO , OTSRO and ZOOAN?
I don't know what the Hektor needs, but OTZFO isn't it. OTZFO (so-called "universal" focusser) only serves the Elmar-V 65mm macro, Elmarit 90 v1, Tele-Elmar 135, and possibly the Elmar 135 (with a tube). Welcome to the madhouse that is Visoflex. 🙂 And be aware that Visoflex I is the prewar LTM system, while Visoflex II/III are oriented to M mount: the systems are largely incompatible. The Hektor is an LTM lens released in 1933.

The 135 f4.5 Hector was also later made in M mount.
Interesting. Regardless of the mount, I imagine the head remains unchanged and, therefore, part of the Visoflex I system. That's just a guess (dangerous in VisoLand 🙂) based on postwar lenses with LTM/M versions. Example is the Elmar 90 head that always fits the OUAGO focusser regardless its supplied mount.

I would imagine that the head is the same. Better coatings as that technology progressed.

More common than a unicorn, a Novoflex Hekring adapter will allow you to fit the Hektor lens head to any ltm 39mm thread.

I use a Leica Bellows II with my Fuji X-E1 and have 3 rings for the front of the bellows. One for my L39 90/4 lens head (which I think is the same ring that your 135/4.5 uses), one that works with both my 90/2 and 135/2.8 lens heads, and one that takes any M mount lens for extreme close-up work.

The Kipon Visoflex to FX adaptor lets you not bother with a real Visoflex. Think of it as the M to FX adaptor plus a Visoflex, minus the mirrors and stuff. See: P1020826 by Drew Saunders, on Flickr

Here's the whole setup, with the 135/2.8 head:

The Velbon macro slider, and there's a newer better one available, is really nice! The Bellows II have a lever (on the side not visible in this photo, maybe I'll take more photos later to better illustrate the whole setup) that lets you move the camera between horizontal and vertical too, which is handy.

Here's the setup, but with the M mount ring in the bellows, and my 50/1.5 M Nokton mounted, at maximum close-up (something like 2x life size, maybe more):

The LED desk lamp is $10 from Ikea, and is really handy for this kind of work. See http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/20169658/
