Just got a call from Ken in NY who told me he mailed me a 21 2.8 Asph for my M to play with. He knows my weakness. Play with it for a couple of weeks and if you dont like it just send it back. Gee, what are the odds??

Depends on if you find suitable material for it. Technically I understand the Leica is a tremendous lens but using it properly is a challenge. I have a Kobalux 21/2.8 and I love it but I haven't used it very much. But nowhere near as much money sitting on the shelf as the Leica version... 😉

I want to try some landscapes with it in the mountains. I think the 28 is enough but there are som escenes that I need the extra coverage.

Make sure you have something (preferably large and compelling) in the foreground Jorge. Landscapes with a 21 can be wonderful if you are at the water's edge or if there is some other really interesting feature or object in the near foreground. A horizon shot by itself will be disappointing - I tried it! 😉

I've had 21's for a long time; the 3.4 SA has been one of my favourite lenses ever, the Elmarit was doable but not outstanding, but the ASPH is amazing! I got mine shortly after it came out 7 or 8 years ago, and it would be one of the last lenses I gave up. I tested it for the LHSA Viewfinder some years back against the 3.4 SA, the 21/4 Cosina and the 3.5 Ricoh. There was no doubt the ASPH was the class of the field in every respect except size, price and distortion. The SA still had very slightly less distortion.

I have or have had about 20 other lenses close to this focal length over the last 35 years, and nothing else comes close.

As far as shooting scenery, the 21 can be very effective but it does take some practice. I took it trekking in Nepal in 1997 and used it about 10% of the time.
