HI, I know this must have been discussed in other threads in detail, but I wonder if someone can tell the biggest difference in picture quality between these two lenses. I know a lot of people prefer the version 4 to the aspherical, but why. I shoot mainly color film.

The OOF rendering is supposed to be different, I can't provide examples of the ASPH version but I have a wide open shot at min. focus distance with the v.4 here. I like the lens, but for the same money I'd have bought the ASPH because of it's size.

I have owned neither and can only relay what owners/users have said before, which in summary is:

Elmarit asph is higher in contrast and has a much more modern look to it. Some dont like the bokeh as much as the V4 and consider its tonality harsher. The V4 is quite a bit bigger and some love the compactness of the newer lens and its 'bite'. Digital users may also appreciate the lower contrast of the pre-asph also.

As I say, thats a summary of what I have read and nothing more.
