Hello Leica Buffs
I'm about to get into Leica M and I noticed this 35mm f2 with no filter thread (I'm after the 4th version). Is this a rare lens and is US$1095.00 a good asking price? It is rated 9++/10. Thanks.
Hi,
From the serial number it is early to mid 70's I have a lux from this era as well. The 12504 hood was meant for both the 35 Lux's and Cron's. It took a Series VII filter. With the filter in the hood, no need for threads on the lens.
According to the serial number that lens would be a Version 2nd/3rd not the 4th (pre-asph). The correct hood would be the 12585 although I imagine the 12504 would work. The correct hood for the 4th version is a 12524 although a 12585 works well.
The Summicrons all had filter threads. It could be someone replaced a damaged front piece with one from the same-era Summilux, which used the same hood but did not have filter threads. Or it could be a one-of-a-kind rare collectors item😀
It looks exactly like my 35/2 V2. I believe that this was the only one to use the aperture tab. It's actually kind of nice in use as you can adjust the aperture and shutter speed both with your right index finger. Your left can then focus on focusing. Mine has the normal 39mm filter thread though.
produced only for a short while, maybe as a cost cutting measure, because leitz believed you can use the hood which can sandwich the series 6 filter, thereby making the thread redundant, people complaint, leitz changed their mind.
