leica 35mm Summicron ASPH black-out

Just wondering what may cause the blackout on the left side of all the photos? The body is a Leica M2 and this Summicron is the only lens that has this problem.

if you have it only with the summicron and tried with another lens, maybe the aperture is dead, something like a diaph blade

Thanks for the suggestions.

I think I will shoot and develop a roll of film tomorrow using different lens and see if I can determine if it is the lens or the body.

The first 30 frames are shot using a Leica 90mm Elmarit-M and there were no problems. The last 6 frames are shot using the Leica 35mm Summicron and those frames have the blackout problems.

I suppose that it is possible that the curtain has developed a problem.



I placed the lens under a light with magnifying glass. I rotated the aperture and the aperture appears to be opening and shutting without any problems. I do not see any cracks or any other obvious damages.

How do I tell if there is a broken aperture or loose baffle?

Your shutter is out of whack. One of the curtains is either too slow/too fast so as "catch-up" with the other curtain. A relatively easy fix.
