Could this be real? Why?

I'm no expert in the French language (c'est certain), but the grammar gives me pause. "Leica nous annonce . . ." bothers me. I don't think "nous" belongs there, does it? And I didn't like "une Photokina" If they meant "at Photokina," would it not be "a (with accent mark) Photokina?" Or maybe "pour Photokina?"

It all suggests that either the person who wrote the article doesn't know French; or else I don't!

Anybody?

There is nothing wrong with the grammar here, it is perfect French no mistakes. They used the word photokina as a femal name ("une photokina...") and they said "Leica annouced us..." (Leica nous annonce...).

It is apparently real yes. Because this, and the other fast lenses they've announced puts them back at the top of the pile in optics.

Thanks, Meven, I'm OK now with "Leica nous annonce." But given that Photokina is a female name, and also is a specific thing, would one not use the definite article "la Photokina?"

Pardon, for turning the forum into a French lesson!

Let me take a stab at the first two sentences: "Leica brings us a 2008 Photokina particularly rich in novelties. The Leica M8.2 does not arrive alone!"
Does that help?

I can't really find the words to explain, this is one of the many subtilities of the French language. The way I see it is, replace the word Photokina by Exhibition and the word "une" will make sense.

To the others, sorry for the lesson!

Mon Dieu! Leica announces a $11000 lens and we start discussing french grammer! I think it is an ostrich syndrome - we just dont want to accept that a/we dont want to spend that kind of money and b/we still want one!
On the other hand, this has been the only sensible discussion about the "New" Noctilux so far!

has anybody actually announced any specific specs on this lens -- like how close it focuses? or are we still just in the foreplay phase?

(i'm off to sulk re the snide remark about R-D1 users -- sheesh! but i'm pleased they brought up the Kubrick lens... whenever my boyfriend rags me about my lust for fast lens, i just claim it's genetic :p)

The first wall shot ...

The first wall shot ...

So let's wait for someone posting the first shot of a brick wall and start discussing the differences of the 0.95 vs the 1.0 pre-asph wide open based on 300kb screen posts :D.

That's dated lens testing methodology. The modern method to test five-figure superspeed lenses is to shoot family pets at full aperture safe in the confines of your own house.

If you should actually take your lens outdoors and shoot interesting pics in all weather conditions, then post pics of your lens covered with snow, you'll be banned from the forum. The shock of seeing a lens "investment" like that exposed to the elements is simply too great for the forum to bear. ;):D

i just spit tea all over my computer screen!

Shame they can't come up with a sensor with D3 levels of low light performance, as it is the chip gives away 2 stops so nikon users can shoot in the same conditions as noctilux users with an F2 lens. In fact you could buy a D3 and fast prime for the price of this lens have better low light performance and go on a carribean holiday with the change. Madness

If Leica builds it, Ned will give it the snow job it deserves. ;)
