leica 50 advice sought

I have just tonight finally scanned some shots taken through the old Elmar-M dreilly sold me.

I haven't spotted the scan - and that's probably a dog hair 😱 in the middle - but I like the results.

I suspect this will have been shot at f/8, so not much of a test, with a generic hood.

Neopan 400, Xtol 1+1.

(BTW, I love the idea of the fixed f/2 'cron!)

/edit: I may have profiles screwed up somewhere - that looks much darker int he browser than in PS. bah.

thanks gabriel.

right now, i'm reading up on summarits.
too damn many variations for this old boy.
i should probably just get the summicron cleaned and put together and shoot some film and see some results before i jump into another 50.

the m3 feels great with the big 1.2 canon on it so i'm not lacking now.

i have a canon 1.2 and 1.5 and from what i have read the elmar actually sounds the 'best different' from the others. in fact a good clean old elmar sounds about right. i bought the summicron because no one bid over 99 bucks, really.

confused in edmonton...

Summicron is not bad afterall. I get one with cleaning marks, but the 1st trial shot amazes me, though 1 hour shop says that film is too underexposed to print.

I like the rigid Summicron and the collapsible. I just got an old Elmar 50/3.5, and I am still waiting to get back the first roll developed. The other 50's that I like include the Nikon 50/2 and the Canon 50/1.2. Super optics.

Mark, without regard to the lens, I do like your photo... The curves are great, especially the way the "ceiling" curve draws the eye right the gent's head. I wish their feet had been given some room within the frame... and the mystery is there appears to be someone else walking close behind him...

looks good eric.

does your lens have lots of cleaning marks?
joe

The cleaning mark is obvious, but not too much. The shots were taken just after a CLA done to it and m3.

Thanks.

I agree on the feet thing - that's kind of my compositional blind spot 🙂 I was berating myself again for that after I scanned the shot last night.

Now the mystery person, on the other hand, I didn't notice until you pointed out 😀

I already said this on that other thread, but I don't mind repeating it here or as many times as it's necessary.

Summitar 🙂

Eric: I just found a Summitar on eBay, current bid at $99. I just about threw a bid down on it, because I covet one fairly badly.

Then I saw who had the high bid. 😉

Hope you win.

Thanks for blessing. That's me. I just hope to try a new dish (Summitar). Man always enjoys different lovers. 😎
