I purchased a Leica IIIf and it had a 50mm 2.8 with Haze. I see it with a light but didn't see where it affected the first roll but I'm sure it will get worse with time. The lens is #1451359 which puts it in what year? I'm sure its around the 50's I assume? I shot half a roll at f8. What can this forum tell me?

Welcome. Now you are lost ;-) This forum can tell you anything you'd want and more.
Your lens is from '56. Link: http://www.forloren.dk/lbf/leica_lens_serial.htm
This lens may very well be worth the effort to get it cleaned.

Browse around here and you will find all the info you might want to know. Have you seen Cameraquest.com already? Lots of info on various subjects.

The inside surface of the front element of this lens is prone to a kind of haze that cannot be removed in some cases. This is because of the glass itself containing a lot of lead. Some repair experts can replace this element. Great lens, even wide open.

Hey Tennis-Joe, I see you're from Houston, what part are you from?

Anyway, to get back on track, go talk to the guys at Houston Camera Exchange, and ask for Andy. I believe he's the resident Leica Expert. He should be able to help you out and see if you can get the lens cleaned.

Good luck!

I live near I-45 & 1960 but since I got into film again and rangefinders, I go to Camera Exchange and Camera Coop near Shepherd and Washington. Some of the guys at Camera Exchange never want to look for what I need. Some are more helpful and I have picked up a couple of things from them.

I am overjoyed with the Leica IIIf and its silence of the shutter after using a couple of Canon RF's . Anyway I do have a Leica 50mm 2.0 that is wonderful. I will have to evaluate the lens more before I send it off for cleaning. The haze does appear inside the front element. My Canon lens are great also.
