Does anyone have any comparative experience of the 75mm summicron and the newer (f2.4) summarit lens?

I want to add a 75mm to pair with a 35mm for general use on both film and digital. The older summarits (f2.5) had some limitations such as close-focus distance, but on paper the current version seems pretty much identical to the f2 APO lens. Even the MTF performance looks very similar.

Is there is any compelling reason to get the f2 over the f2.4, aside from the max aperture?

I've owned both. The Summicron is bigger, heavier and more expensive. At f/2 and reasonably close focus distance the DOF is razor thin. Stopped down, crisp from edge to edge. No complaints about IQ.

The new (and old for that matter) Summarits are superb value. I can't imagine wanting more than what these lenses can deliver. The out of focus areas are very nice, shall, good contrast, easier on the wallet... Even if cost was not a concern, the Summarit is my first choice.

Thanks for the replies.

I think I agree that the summarit would make the most sense given the weight difference and inherent fun with focus-and-recompose...
