Leica adapters

Yes they are....but the viewfinder lines need to be in the camera body. For example if you mount a 35mm LTM lens on an M3, or a 28mm lens on an M4....those cameras don't natively have those framelines.....so they won't appear.....but you will be able to mount the lens on the camera.

It's a good idea to check them for damage. People can and do modify them with a file to use with the "wrong" lens; meaning not as labelled. The genuine Leitz ones are dear and the cheap one are usually - these days - OK. Best to buy from a dealer or someone who will give you your money back if not as specified.

Ages ago I wrote a long spiel about them; it's here:-

There were (are?) some aftermarket ones based on Leica's design. I do not know what experience others have had of these but I tried them and mine were perfectly fine - machined to correct tolerances and functioning normally. I think I bought it out of curiosity more than anything because I have several original Leica ones somehow - picked up over the years with various lenses.

These are designed to bring up correct framelines of course as others point out. Mine cover the field from 28mm-135mm. If you are buying one of these adapters just check to make sure it works on your camera model as later M's had some differences in their schema for rangefinder framelines. (e.g. M3 had no 35mm framelines or 28mm ones; some later cameras had 28 mm framelines and 75mm and later cameras omitted the 135mm framelines etc.)

Only the M2 does not have the 135 framelines if my memory serves me right

M2 also doesn't have 28 nor 75mm frames... just 35, 50, 90 ... nice and clean! 😉
M2 that's the one they should have remade! There were no 28mm /75mm lines until 1980 with the M4P.....

Maybe the M2R instead? I mean, I like classic cameras, but that quick load feature sure would be nice to have without having to pay a collector's premium. --PF

Good idea, it helps. My M2 is a very early button rewind sample made in Aug 1958, that I bought in July 1967. Within the next couple of years I bought and installed the "Quick Load kit" with a newer style of removable film spool and associated guide fitted to the baseplate. Certainly makes loading easier. Kit came from a Leica authorized retailer in downtown Seattle.
