can anyone tell me roughly what the time-to-delivery is from the time you pace an ala carte order? i'm leaving for a trip in just under 2 months and am thinking of selling my M7 (and M2) and buying an MP. The only thing is i really prefer the classic 35-50-90 framelines and vulcanite covering which pretty much necessitates the ala carte route.

There was a thread about this a few weeks back. If I recall correctly, it takes between 4 - 6 weeks to take delivery of a ala carte MP.

There is another option:
You could buy a second hand, mint Leica MP in black paint or silver chrome (standard models) for about half the price of a new one and have it modified to your liking at a later time.
You will have your camera in time for the trip, will get your modifications (as long, as it is just a modified RF and leatherette) and save a lot of money in the process.
I have done the first part of this recently, anticipating the wish, to have the standard "sandpaper" leatherette changed to a vulcanite cover, as my M8.2, but I actually like the standard cover quite a bit now.
There are still nice, unused MPs out there, which wait for new owners.

yeah, i think this is what i'm going to do. though is it possible to get a viewfinder with the classic framelines installed at a later date? who would do this sort of work?

My order for a ala carte M7 was submitted over four weeks ago. I thought I was told 6-8 weeks, but can't find that email, so it might be closer to 10-12 weeks as was mentioned above.

There are some ala carte M7 and MP popping up from time to time. You might be lucky to see an MP with your preferred specs in the classified or fleabay. Never say never
