Leica B&W Monopan 50 Film

It’s definitely Adox HR-50.
Interesting that the listing of recommended developers are mostly Adox products and that second "Notes" bullet re: developers not on the list seems curious. Incompatible? Compare with the Adox HR-50 datasheet as @Freakscene called it. Quite similar. 🤔 Wonder if there was any reformulation other than the packaging?

Yep, presumably the Speedboost/pre flashed variant. The sample pictures look like to too.

I don’t really mind Leica branding this. I’ve got a bulk roll in the freezer already so I will continue to use the Adox variant, but I suspect the costs (particularly if the edge markings are Leica) are such that there is less extra margin than ‘people’ might think.

As for the fanboy video. I couldn’t watch to the end for cringing.

It has Leica edge markings, as well as canisters and boxes.

I would bet a bottle of something good that it is not reformulated.

Rebrands typically sold at a price point less than the original product. Thinking about all the Freestyle films we've seen over the years rebranded under the Arista label. Great values. Don't think the Leica will sell for less than its' Adox counterpart. So why buy it? Will it be different?

Those pretty boxes have to cost something, eh? 😉

Kidding aside: It's nice to see Leica continue to pay attention to their film cameras. A lot of people, myself included, probably have never heard of ADOX HR 50 and would hear of Leica 50 first due to marketing and visibility in the media.

Yes, finally the markup is not huge and it puts film in Leica shops.

I saw on another website that Leica quoted it at about 12 euros on their IG page. I don’t have Instagram so I can’t check. Based on Freestyle’s pricing for HR-50, that would put it at almost double the price.

I would buy a roll or two just to try. Won’t break the bank.

It's not exactly a typical rebrand (where the only thing different is the name on the packaging) in that the film edge markings have also been tailored to mark it as LEICA 50 film. That does take some investment and effort.

US price seems to be stated as $10/36-exp roll MSRP. If the typical film discounting gets applied, that'll be pretty darn close to the for sale price of the ADOX HR 50 at $7 to $8 per 36-exp roll.

One thing it might out do the ADOX film on is availability ... I bet all the Leica Stores will carry it, where I've never seen the ADOX available in a retail store

Good news! Adox HR 50 is one of my favourites so maybe they won't suddenly stop making it with Leica additional support.

Re: cost of Monopan 50: B&H is currently selling Tr-X for $9 per roll of 36 exposures, and TMax 400 at $11 for a roll of 36 exposures. So Monopan 50 at $10 per roll of 36 is not out of line. I will try a roll when it becomes available. In the meantime, I'm really missing Ferrania P33, which is apparently not available in the US at present (I'm aware of the change in ownership of Film Ferrania); that film is beautiful!

I was not impressed with the sample photos on Leica's website but the photos ^^^^ here are beautiful. But is the Monopod 50 film really rebranded Adox?
We can only wait until we get our hands on some, but all information is 100% consistent with it being Adox HR-50. No difference in development times, spectral sensitivity or density curves. Made in Germany on the package. If it looks like a duck . . .

Leica made a deal with Agfa-Gevaert in Belgium for this Red extended type iso 50 film. In the past Maco (Rollei) and Impex (Adox) did the same. If you have money enough you can make a fancy packing too.
