I have been using two Leica batteries for the M9 while my M8 does very well with generic batteries. The new prices for Leica batteries are very high. I noticed that a battery for a Mercedes or for a BMW is usually around $600. Food for thought.

I bought three Leica batteries a couple of years ago. One died quite quickly. The battery in the M9 right now is down to just above 25% power and going strong. I have never got much below 50% before I get the low battery warning and the camera shuts down. This battery is one of my originals from 2012 or 2013. I am carrying around the charged battery to replace this one but the battery in the camera will not die. Nevertheless, my next battery purchase will be a generic. And I'll buy generic charger when yet another Leica one bites the dust.

The battery and the backup have been on several walks and today was down to under 25% when I set off and it lasted through several shots till I removed the SD card at home. It’s like the Leica or the charger have finally found firmware depth. More likely the charger is about to pack up, again.

FWIW I use Leica and generic in my M9 and M8.2. Maybe the Leica ones do last longer. The generics are way cheaper. So carry a spare, or two. Pretend they are 36 exposure rolls of film with bonus frames. Such a deal.
