I have a fresh battery, the voltage is 1.5 (actually I tried 2 batteries)

The battery test button sends the needle to the same position as the shutter speed area.

Changing the shutter speed makes the needle jump in increments.
But changing the amount of light hitting the meter has no effect.

I guess it probably needs a new cell?

First of all, the CL takes 1.35V batteries, like the now discontinued PX625 mercury battery. Using a higher voltage can definitely ruin your meter's readings. But erratic behaviour seems to indicate a meter that's nearing the end of its life.

See my blog for an article on _battery replacements_.
Contact Sherry Krauter if your meter is finished. She might be able to fix it.

I've had two CL's and both had meter problems.
The solution for my current CL was a CV meter II rather than having the meter fixed.
They are less expensive than a meter repair, easy to use, and can be used on other cameras. Something to consider...
