Hi, i recall both had great lenses but one was more prone to fault then the other? Which is which? And what is a good price for either? I saw a Minilux for £150... sorely tempted.

The earlier Minilux (I've got one) is more prone to the dreaded EE02 shutter fault error message. Apparently expensive to get repaired.

One thing that bothered me about the Minilux, is the six button presses needed to set the flash to canceled everytime it's switched on. The CM can be set up with canceled flash as default..
But the lens.. oh man, it's good, really really good..

The E02 faulted worried me too.
Recently I got the fault.
Leica in UK said it could be 'very expensive'.
Leica in Germany said to send the camera and they would assess it.
And Leica in Lisbon Portugal said to send it in and the cost would be €150 with same day service.

Hi,
I got the E02 error on two miniluxes. One was repaired for EUR 180,-.
The other one is now a paperweight because I picked up a Minilux zoom for the same money.
The minlux is a great camera but has a few drawbacks.
-The E02 error.
-Very small vf
-No external flash possible
-Low high estshutter speed
-Does not memorise settings
The CM has solved all these issues and is smaller. The lens is the same although the coating is said the be improved a bit.
Only drawback of the CM is the AF light in dimm light.
Both cameras have some shutterlag.
The minilux can easily be found below EUR 200. The CM is still quit expensive.

I own a minilux (zoom version) and has been using it for more than 4 years now. Fortunately I still have not encounter the E02 error so far. However, if you are going to get one, be prepare to buy a lot of batteries for it as it 'eats' the battery FAST, espeically if you are using the flash!!
Oh well, don't have a CM, so i can't comment on it, but from what I have seen from my friend's image, the CM gives very similar result when compare to the minilux.

I can set my minilux to 'off' the flash as default. If my memory serve, you can press the button to 'flash off' and hold that button for appox 3-5sec until the flash off sign on the LED is blinking. Then the camera flash will be set to 'off' everytime when you switch the camera on. But you will need to set it again everytime after you change the battery. I hope this helps!!

I would really like to test the CM myself. I have a black minilux and the camera is just great. Size is too big for your Jeans pocket, but OK for your inside coat pocket.
Construction and feeling of the minilux is really nice, I like it a lot. The VF is more or less just usable to actually see on what you are pointing on, but I got used to it. BUT the lens, as the heart of this machine, it is just a killer. Pictures quality is stunning, better than my Contax T2 with Sonnar or Yashica T5 with Tessar.

I've never used a CM or a Minilux but I did have a couple of years' experience with the C-1. My first one died after the second roll of film. Leica took forever (six months) to replace it but I wound up with a new C-1 which followed me on an extended trip to Scotland and performed flawlessly for over a year before I sold it.
Now I'm interested in another film P&S to supplement my digital SLR. The C-1's are now at nearly give-away prices on the used market. A bit of counsel would be appreciated as to whether or not I should think about getting another one or moving up to a Minilux or CM.
Your thoughts?
