Leica D-Lux 5 Photos

There are some real gems in that stream.. It's amazing, isn't it, what can be done with a compact point & shoot.

It is the photographer after all, isn't it? Thorsten Overgaard has it right, use the camera you love and you will take great photographs. Over time, you will learn the pros and cons of any camera/lens, it's strengths and weaknesses and if you are serious about your photography, you can produce great images regardless of what you use.
 
There are many members on RFF and I'm sure I'm not the only one who has respect for "point and shoot cameras". Its trite but the old saw about "the best camera is the one you have with you" is quite true.

+1...the DL 5 is definitely one you can carry anywhere! As are a number of other nice compacts.:)
 
Raymond: I'd add that this is proof that the biomass behind the lens is far more important than anything else.

I just picked up the tiny S100 to allow me to take more pictures during the idle time of business travel. I now practice working on light, composition and creating very bad images faster and more often.

I wonder if some of the less than enthusiastic press on the DL5 could have been from some bad samples getting out. I read this review some time ago when I was musing about getting a decent compact digicam.

Also a lot of people choose the Panasonic equivalent for its lower price, so that may be another factor. For me, I'd just as soon have the Leica's longer warranty. Not that the red dot doesn't appeal to me. No, I would never be so shallow ...

I've had my DL5 for about a month now and while sometimes I have second thoughts about spending that kind of money on a "point and shoot" camera, as soon as I have it my hands taking pics I have no doubt I made the right choice. Besides the amazing images it's taken, I find that since it's so compact that I have it with me all of the time which has opened up photo opportunities which I wouldn't have had otherwise. Basically it's made photography fun again and re-energized the way I look at things.

The Leica D-Lux series allows full manual control--it's not just a P & S. With my D-Lux 3 and D-Lux 4, I can do at least 90% of what I can do with my D300, D700, and M8.2. In a few days I'll have an X10 to try out. They are not toys!

Yes, I agree...Personally, I would prefer to see a forum for compact Leica cameras separate from Point and Shoots.

The cool thing here is that this is a great example where a wider (35mm ?) lens shines. Too many times, the motif is too far away or the motif is distorted, due to either the physical makeup of the motif or the point of view chosen.

The DL5 is certainly very good IMO!:angel:
