Leica Data Base Plate?

Anybody seen this before? It has a small notch at the bottom to hold a note, but it means you can't set the camera on the base any more?

That would be a data baseplate for the MDa (based on the M4). It was not equipped with RF or VF, being primarily for data recording or visoflex use. There's no reason you couldn't use it on another camera, but the MDa had a special channel milled in the film gate to hold the data slip, that feature might not work with other M's.

I don't think so. I've seen pix of the MDa, the base plates are the normal flat ones. The data strip is on the left of the film gate, inside the camera.
