Spoke with our good site sponsor KBCamera today and he informed me he has received a publication with a picture and some details on the digital M.

Here is a link with big pictures and answers to some questions.

Talk about excitement !!!!

I am first first in line for one.

sweet! looks like they got a jog dial like the rd-1, but no "film advance" lever. and that dot next to the rf window must be for a self timer, a la hexar rf. and they got rid of the strap rub protectors, front battery well, frameline preview lever, and rewind lever (of course...). 🙂

There was something afoot on PN... and one of the bits said they were replacing the silk shutter curtains with a leaf shutter.

Can it be true? Will it still be a silent shutter?

Maybe I'm wrong. Let's wait for more reliable information. Thanks, Jorge!

Maybe it is because I am so used to M film cameras... But this one look kind of weird to me personally... The covering looks similiar to the MP...

When is this little gadget coming out, and what will it cost?

I'd love to see a few more pics, especially from the top and the back.

BTW, this pic comes at an awkward time. I just bought an R-D1!

It looks to me like a rendering from a computer-generated model. That would explain the slightly too-smooth textures and the lack of detail in the knurling on the knobs etc.

Nothing wrong with using computer models for PR -- the car companies do it all the time, since for long-deadline publications you need to get the images out while the drivable prototypes are probably still in the development stage. But a car is a larger-scale object, so a rendering that looks pretty realistic as a car might look a bit fakey as a camera.

This baby is splattered on the back of the latest Leica World magazine. I spoke with the Leica rep yesterday and sounds like things are going really well. They have resolved the issue of the wide lenses being so close to the sensor. My understanding is that it will be a 10mp with a 1.3x . Of course all of this can change but this is waht I know.

OK, big pictures with questions and answers. Go to the top and read the link there.

that seems most probable. maximum 1/500 sec is slow. i wonder what the fastest shutter speed will be, 1/2000 or 1/4000, because that would suggest either a bessa/zi shutter, or hexar rf/contax g2. i'm guessing 1/4000, because it doesn't have an advance lever. that'd be good news, because it's even quieter and duller than the cloth shutter, sans motor wind!

Hey🙂

Mmm...MD...could stand for the people who might buy one: (1) Medical Doctor (have you ever met a poor MD?), or (2) Mentally Deficient (have more money than sense).

Let's face it, this thing is gonna cost a hellovalotof money. Enough, probably, to make the RD-1 seem reasonably priced. There will be a load of hoo-ha when it finally arrives for real, but are there enough people in the world who are going to buy one to save Leica from the rest-room of history? 😕

M

Since I'm definitely not a medical doctor MD, I must be the latter MD because I certainly will buy the digital M as will many other photographers. It won't be an inexpensive camera, but then Leicas never have been. Imagine a cropping factor of about 1.37 and consider treating the current speculation about MP count with some skepticism.

Cheers,

Sean

FYI, this isn't the Digital M. It's just a generic representation. It's actually just an M7 with MD photoshoped in. It was featured in Leica World last year and in that article it says...

"This is what it may look like... a design concept by prof. Achim Heine"

I guess photoshopping MD over the M7 consitutes a concept these days. Keep up the hard work Leica. 🙄
