I got invited to Leica events in Sydney on 23 October and Melbourne on 24 October. I wonder if this is the Leica M11 V launch, or whatever they decided to call the M EVF camera?

Unfortunately I have a booked event and can’t go.

Very intriguing! If someone let me know the time of the Melbourne event, I might hang around the glass doors and see what goes on hahaha

Sounds like fun but to far away for moi 😉

As an aside, can anyone explain the rationale' for an M11V? If that's what you really want doesn't it exist already as one of the SL bodies?

No. The SL do not have angled microlenses so there is still some smearing with M lenses in the corners, and they are much bigger.

You could lend somebody your ident-i-eeze.

I'd be happy to if it was simple, but they want email address and ID confirmation for attendance. To pass my invitation on and facilitate someone else going could trigger identity theft laws, and at best is just disingenuous. If my name is going to be sullied, I'll do it myself 😂

Do you mind if I ask how you acquire the invitation?
I'm interested in the event but unsure if it is for people in their list only.

I assume I got on the list from recent purchase of products. Yes, the invitation is list only - you need to register from the invitation. You may be able to call the store and ask if you can get an invitation. These have very variable in attendance in prior experience.

Thanks, I might give the store a call later 🙂

I think there's a very high chance of a Leica M EV1: in the five nines category I'd say. To me, that would be the best combination of a rangefinder and an SLR camera - or should that be single sensor reflex? In the wilds of Western Australia, I'll be looking out for Jono Slacks website to confirm: Jonathan Slack Photography

Leica referred to the cancellations as being due to "unforeseen circumstances". AI says: "speculation suggests that US tariffs on European imports may have impacted the launch, as these tariffs have already led to price increases for Leica products".

This seems unlikely, to me anyway. The general tariffs on German goods imported to the US is 15%. Someone with the means to buy a camera body in the $10-15K US range isn't like to care much about another 15%. These are Veblen goods wherein demand usually rises as price increases.

I'd be more inclined to believe that Leica is worried they can't keep production up.

My guess is that for some reason Leica could not get the demo cameras into the US for the events.

There's speculation that the Amazon Web Services outage and subsequent internet problems caused the cancellations.
Now I get it. Apparently there are delays in FCC authorization in America, so the camera won't be available there until that is through. It's kind of odd that they still haven't gained that authorization in what would be a large market before launch.
