Leica film template offer

I made one out of the aluminum of a dry wall T-square if that is any help and use a retractable blade utility knife to cut the film.

Now that I have a bottom feeder, I could also use one.

Thanks,

Looking at the ABLON, are you really supposed to be able to maneuver a scissors through that curve? It seems an xacto knife would be the preference...and if so, wouldn't it make more sense for one side of the clamp to be full film width so it could also serve as a cutting surface (perhaps made of wood)? As it is, you need to seek out a cutting surface. Eh, but I don't know, I'm an idiot...and I would like one of your templates please Traut 🙂

An ABLON or similar metal guide would be nice, but right now I just cut the film freehand the same way I make leaders after loading a film cassette from my bulkloader. Just make the leaders longer like someone had posted in the sticky.

Just to help anyone thinking of making a template here is what I did using the aluminum from a dry wall T-square.

MelanieC -- Leica bottom loaders, the III, II, and I series as well as all the copies of the Leica bottom loaders, require a longer leader for loading the film. If you use the standard leader it's not easy to load and bits of film get broken off and those jam things up. There are tricks to load with the standard leader but it's so much easier to load with a properly cut leader.

Ah, thanks.

I just got a new hood for my 50mm Summicron from Heavystars on eBay, and was wondering if there was yet another thing I didn't realize I need but need.

Another reason to have a forum for the Barnack cameras! Questions about the Barnacks just confuse the M users. 🙂

I've been working on a leader template to add to my camera straps at gordy's camera straps. I still need to make it down to talk to my favorite machinist but I've been swamped lately. Hopefully in the next month or two I will have something.

I'd be interested.

BTW, might want to post this in the Russian forum, too. Lots of FED & Zorki 1 users there who'd want one.

Excellent suggestion. Any bottom loading advocate, really, can make good use of the template. There aren't too many of the obscure cameras in use, but lots of FSU, Leicas and Canons, for sure.

Keep me posted, as well. At reasonable cost, it's a good, useful item, and I could use one. I made a simple cut out from a plastic file folder, but a copy of the real thing would be much easier.

A second alternative is to slip a playing card or a business card into the film gate then slide the film between the card and the camera body when loading and initially winding the film (then remove the card). One deck of playing cards will outlast most Leica owners.

I really like this idea.. thanks. I assume you don't cut the film at all, when you use the playing card. So simple, an elegant solution.

Yes, sissors work just fine and that's how I cut mine. A fairly small pair with narrow blades work best but I've used large sissors with equal success. The larger sissors just aren't as nimble to use.
