Leica Filters.

I am new RangeFinders. I have a RD-1 and a Leica M7 and a couple of lenses (35mm Summicron new style, and 50mm Summicron new style) . I will also grab a 75mm Summilux 1.4 when I find one at a price I can stiff afford along with something really wide.. 21 or 15mm.

But... given all of that what do I do about polarisers and ND filters. On the DSLR side I use a Cokin p-mount for Neutral Density filters and bought filters from Singh-Ray. But I am not sure the best way to approach filters on the Rangefinders and keep the amount of stuff I am carrying low.

What kind of film will you be using?
If B&W, then a red 25a is very usefull and maybe a green. For color, a warming filter can be nice in harsh light. Some people use polarizers on RF's but I can never get the hang of it. That's my 2 cents.

A cheap way to use polarizers on an RF is to carry two, with index marks. Look through one, note the mark, set the one on the lens. Leica makes some expensive polarizers that are geared to let you see through the finder.

You can also get a series adapter for the Leica. The wides and normals can use a series VI.

I am very happy with a B+W KR 1.5.

It's a sort of skylight, UV, and warm-up combination.

So now I know what to do with those "auto-up" devices for RF's. You know, the ones that go onto the hot shoe and hold a corrective element over the Viewfinder?

Take out the glass and mount a polarizer to it.
