Any lenses around 50-60mm that can fit a Leica M without massive investment in modification of the mount? I don't want or need a tele-macro lens on a rangefinder.

I remember seeing Tom Abrahamson had an RF coupled Alpa mounted on an M2 a while a go and I just wondered what the options might be.

Before anyone mentions the DR Summicron, I know it close focuses but it's not a macro lens.

Thanks,

Benjamin

You could do worse. Make sure that the goggles match the lens. I sure do like mine. Lovely lens. Oh, and the lens head unscrews to mount on the bellows and reflex housing. The early 90mm/2.8 Elmarit does the same.

My lenses are all screw mount and I have screw extension tubes, so using the lot on my M2 is a distinct possibility. I'd have to check a few distances on a ground glass and do the actual work with a tape measure. Did this stuff way back, but now it doesn't appeal as much as the simplicity of my digital SLR with macro lens.

Benjamin. rangefinders are not very good for close up work. The best and least complicated is still the DR Summicron. Not a true macro, but it works. The Macro Switar 50 worked, but it de-coupled from the rangefinder at 0.7 meters so anything closer than that was guesswork (or tedious measuring with a ruler!).
For true macro work and a M - you have to go to a Visoflex II/III and the adapters for various lenses. The best is the 65f3.5 as it is the widest lens that will cover close-up to infinity. A bit clumsy as a walk around kit and you really need a tripod for it too.
For higher volume macro - nothing beats a SLR, even to a point were you dedicate a body to it. Old Nikon F and the 55 Micro Nikkor f3.5 or 2.8 can be gotten for what a Viso III costs today - and it is much easier to handle.
