A lot, but not all, of the camera reviews on individual photographer websites can be pretty weak. After all, we’re usually talking about something we love but whose inner complexities sometimes escape us. Here’s one that’s pertinent to the RF forum and pretty intelligent from a photographer experienced with both Leicas and the new Fujis. (The only thing I would add is that you can add Leica or Voigtlander bright line finders to the accessory shoe of an XE-1 and often have a more accurate bright line finder than the one built into the X-Pro.)

"You can take an M9 and three lenses anywhere; it all fits in your pocket."

Damn, big pockets.

As with everything else in the world...
Too much premium is put on size alone.
Not that either of these cameras is sized much differently from the other.
Just that... It's tiring that measurebating is such a benchmark!
If there was some sort of matrix for size in relation to usability by the human form the conversation would be more constructive (hope sony is listening).
Ergonomics? Too general.

Fuji are well ahead of the game with the X cameras. If they truly want to dominate, they should build a proper Rangefinder system based around the X100s and X-Pro1. People obviously love RF cameras, and Leica is the only game in town for modern RFs. I'm convinced Fuji could do this for close to the prices of the current models, and sell TONS.

I LOVE the X100. I would love it 100x better if it were a proper RF camera =o]

I sometimes wonder when Leica is going to cease being regarded as the yardstick for other cameras ... the Fujis in particular?

+1 ...well said, Keith. I think that those kinds of comparisons are of very limited use. At best one can compare various Leica models with each other or compare Fuji cameras with each other and ga in some useful information but I think that "cross-species" comparisons are pointless.

I still shoot a lot of film w/ rf cameras, but these days it is mainly medium format folders.

W/ digital, it is mainly for the autofocus ... So for me, it is a don't care in the digital world. I still have legacy lenses around.. Between the Fuji and Ricoh gxr, I am covered.. W/ focus peaking plus mag focus, with my poor eyesight, I can actually focus faster this way then w/ a rf setup.

Heh, i'm sort of the other way around. I don't care a whole lot about AF with digital. I have a Sony NEX-6 with an Asahi 55mm f1.8 and a Fotasy 35mm f1.7 lens, and that's it. All MF. Yes, i can focus faster with peaking than i can with the M6, but i'd still love a modern Fuji RF.

... when other cameras start getting close to Leica`s lens quality. For practical purposes almost completely irrelevant but designing lenses with highest performance from large apertures is where Leica is leading and why they are the yardstick.

Hmmmpphh ... typical Noctlux owner! :D :D :D

The difference is largely theoretical. The Fuji 35/2 on the X100 (yeah, I know it's a 23...) is very very good, for example. As are a lot of other manufacturer's lenses. The reality is if you print full-truck you won't see any difference between many of the top offerings at the pro level.

There's nothing wrong with loving your Leica. But comparing MTF and other specs is only a small part of the picture, so to speak. If we were solely interested in technical image quality, we'd all be shooting large format, but we don't - for reasons other than what will be revealed by abstracted data.
