Would you agree that the 'rounded' accessory shoe only ever left the factory on fixed lens Leica Is?

Would you agree that the 'square' accessory shoe only ever left the factory on standardised mount Leica Is?

Could one therefore make the generalisation that an appropriate camera with a 'round' shoe started life as a fixed lens camera?

The identification problem is confounded by the continued supply of fixed lens cameras well into the 30s and the ambiguity of nomenclature and serial number lists!

Non standard mount cameras are a minefield, let's exclude them from this.
The Leica Standard is much easier to define.

Whaddya think and how do you spell accessory?

William,

Thanks I think this clears this up for me.

So , the only thing that a round acccesory shoe can tell me is that it (the shoe!)came from 1931 or before?

I'd be interested to know if there is a source for this kind of information. I find it fascinating and would like to learn more. Can you point me in the right direction or is it only gleaned through years of research?
