Leica II and 50 f2 for sale at goodwill

Was trolling the goodwill online camera department and found a 1932 Leica II with what looks to be a dusty beat up 50mm f2. The bidding has already reached over $1000 so someone is really over paying or this is a grail of a camera. Only 4 hours to go so you could head over there if interested.

Prices for Leicas on shopgoodwill seem to be very generous. I don't fully understand it.

If I'm looking at the same one, it seems to be a IIIf (ca 1955). They may have edited the description. It now says "Leica DBP Film Camera" with no mention of 1932 or II.

I've seen Leicas misidentified before on shopgoodwill. I always check the serial numbers against the description.

It is the auction mentality, competition, plus the thought that it is a bit like a "barn find"-- any one who has bought a fixer upper anything knows--

My house was a project 30 years ago, and now it is a bigger project. ;-)

OTOH, if you are willing to put a great deal of time and effort, or are very lucky-- keep looking at places like good will--

A student friend found two Hassies, with lenses, at one in Cincinnati for $50.

People also back out of their auctions as well, and they accept returns often if you just call them.

They had a Nikon FM2 with a stuck shutter, I called them and told them the battery was probably dead, and to reset it by setting it to the manual shutter speed-- worked and they got a better price for it-- it is a charity.

I think the winner kind of gulped when he realized how much the next highest bidder had put up. Those over-enthusiastic bids can come back to haunt you. Might even see this one back up for auction in a day or so.
