Following up on my continued search for a Leica II or III...
I've decided I don't want a II without strap lugs.
With the III series, is there a increase in the size from certain models onwards?
Is a Summitar or Elmer much better over the Summar?
About buying... should i pay more for a IIIa that already has been CLA'd and presumably have lower chances of trouble or get a IIIc or IIIf and send it for a CLA?
I'm assuming CLAs cost around $200?

The IIIc, f, and g are about 2.8 mm longer than the earlier III models. Also, the IIIc and later models may be a bit more robust, which is something to keep in mind if you plan on using some of the heavier lenses, such as the Summarit.

Didnt they fit ball bearings in the shutter at some point so they work better in cold weather?

That's the IIIb. I'm trying to save my pennies for a nice IIIb. Most were made in 1938, the year I was born.Peter L said:Didnt they fit ball bearings in the shutter at some point so they work better in cold weather?

What scare sme is I have worked in the Photo retail business since the mid sixties and I have had the opportunity to own all these things and I never built a collection. However I have always owned at least one Leica often as an investment (you can always make a profit on one) That being said I have always had the principle that every one I have ever owned I have used and If I was asked to name a camera that would be my last one it would be a Leica
