Hi all,
In an effort to not have to buy another camera I'm wondering if there would be any issues in converting (in terms of functionality) a Leica II to a Leica Standard by simply removing the rangefinder cam?
Reason: I want to shoot (scale focus) my 1939 CZJ 3.5cm f2.8 Biogon on a Barnack.
Worry: While seemingly simple to remove, I suspect the cam might be necessary for other reasons, in terms of rigidity or acting as a support for other components.
What do you think? What do you know?

Ignore the RF and just scale focus.

Barnack-toting Brit.
Assuming Milescl is talking about a Contax-mount Biogon... it's not possible. The RF cam gets in the way of the lens itself.Ignore the RF and just scale focus.
@milescl, why not just pick up a Leica Ic or If? They're usually a bit cheaper than a Standard and don't require butchering a lovely Leica II.

A Ic/If is a logical choice but I’m trying not to buy another camera (but how bad would another Barnack be, anyway?!).
Fortunately removing the cam is just one screw and doesn’t require any other disassembly but I’m curious if removing it would add any adverse effects that aren’t immediately discernible. I emailed Youxin and he didn’t think it would so I might just give it a go.

Brian Sweeney should be able to advise well here.

Youxin can be trusted on such issues. Good luck.A Ic/If is a logical choice but I’m trying not to buy another camera (but how bad would another Barnack be, anyway?!).
