I just got a Leica IIF with a red scale Elmar
Problem happened as I was testing the speeds on the shutter. First high speeds were acting like "B". Then after about 4 tries the shutter button got stuck pressed in. The dial looks like it it didn't finish its travel and is also stuck. The advance knob is freely turning.
Any clues as to what might have gone wrong?
Thanks
Nathan

Try moving the film release button back and forth; sometimes it gets stuck. Also check your spool; I've had it where the spool is not sitting firmly and the shutter acts weirdly on my SM leicas.

1st thought - sounds like you may have the A / R lever out of position, given that the advance turns but does not wind the mechanism. Check that the lever is still screwed on tight and the cone under the top plate has not come loose and rotated

My Leica repair man (retired in Canada and trained in the factory) told me one of the most problems he found in them; was pieces of accumulated film pieces cause's what your talking about. People previously not loading the film properly, and than dumping the camera when CLA costs are known.
