Leica III needs new shutter curtain

Hi all,

I typically gravitate toward the cheaper rangefinders but was in an antique store and found a Leica III (f?) in great external shape for a great price. However, after running a roll of film through it I found that the shutter curtain was crinkled and had pinholes. So, I need to get it replaced. Any recommendations on who can do this? I'm located on the east coast of the US.

Sherry is excellent. She revived my e bay IIIc stepper that was frozen by forty years of non use but... I get the impression she does not like working on screw mount Leicas. I could be wrong but you could ask her. Joe

Yeah, that was the impression I got. Screw mount Leicas are trickier to work on compared to M's. M's are built like a tank, and with parts and assemblies that were made for maintenance. Good sturdy castings, strong threads and part fitting that is easy to re-align. LTM Leicas have fragile threads, some body castings were quite fragile and you needed a delicate touch to get it all working.

I have restored many screw Leicas and have never encountered any of the above. I find the opposite to be true..

I finished a IIIc last week that sat unused since the early 60's. It is now back to working as new.

Whether or not Sherry K. cares to work on Barnack cameras is something you'll have to ask her. Not to be contentious but she has done fine work for me and several of my buddies for years and her work is second to none. She is as fine a Leica tech as you will find.

earlier this year Youxin serviced my IIIf, full CLA replaced both shutter curtains and put in a new beam splitter. I got it back in about two weeks and it works great, I could not be happier. Here is a copy of the bill


The camera is done, I did CLA, changed curtains, removed fungus in finders and put in new beam splitter. It works very well now. Below is the charges:
IIIf RD CLA/new curtains $180.00
IIIf RD new beam splitter $30.00
Shipping $12.85
Total $222.85
