So after seeking a quote from Malcolm and being told to phone him back in a month or so when hopefully his work load would be reduced I decided it a good idea to think about finding another less broken camera.
I looked around and found a few but there was always a price issue if it was nice or a confidence issue if it was the right price. And that was looking at everything from the ii to the iiif. Size wise I really like the iiia and don't want any more from the camera than a iiia brings so full circle I came back to the iiia in my possession. A mate reminded me of a company called Commercial Cameras who he has been dealing with for some 20 odd years. And Paul from commercial cameras reminded me of a company called sprockets who fixed (and did a very good job of fixing) my 500c/m some years ago. Not sure why he didn't pop into my head first really ... Anyway, he has quoted me £80-100 for a full service/CLA including a new set of shutter blinds. I asked "and I guess I should expect that to keep it ticking over for a while", his response "oh yes, these things were very well made, it will probably see at least another 30 odd years out before it needs looking at seriously again" ...
So that's the plan and that's where it's going tomorrow... A few weeks and I should have a nice clean, well functioning Barnack! I wonder how many more of the things I can sneak into the house?! 😉
