Leica IIIC and FILCA fit issue.

Is a FILCA really intended for a IIIC? I find it hard to fit it in the body, and removal will always need the use of a pliers to pry it out. I have managed to break one of the spool head when removing one.

I have several canisters and all of them have the same issue. :bang:

I have the same problem with some of mine - the IIIc is much tighter than the II for some reason, Always needs very careful handling and a good thump on the palm of my hand to get it out again.

Perhaps the little bracket that catches the bottom lock is too close to the end of the camera, and thus binding against the magazine.

Never had such a problem with my IIIa.

One thing that could cause binding is if the two screws on the front of the shell are too long and are protruding into the chamber.

I've seen this on Leicas that were overhauled by non-Leica trained repairmen.. They replace those two screws and don't cut them to proper length..

Another thing mainly on cassettes that are not marked Leitz is the lock spring bows out too far and is lodging on the inside of the shell..

Finding a FILCA enabled bulk loader one day would be nice, I saw one in Jim Lagers book on Leica accessories, but I'm never gonna find one like that, I guess, way too rare!

That's pretty interesting! I have a Watson knock-off loader that apparently has that feature copied as well, wellwhaddayaknow! Always liked my Lloyds loader over the Watson-copy, but that might change with this...!

I'll give it a shot tomorrow, see if it will take a FILCA (or Leica M capable IXMOO!) 🙄

If you have a "Computrol" copy of the Watson, that has the ability to operate the lock on the filca - I have 2 of those as well as 2 of the Lloyd type.

Yes, the 'Computrol' does it fine and the last one I bought - new - on Ebay cost me less than £10: just loaded a roll of HP5 into a FILCA with mine.

Y'all got me curious so I pulled out a filca and it fits nicely in my IIIc. It will not fit in my 1929 1a. It goes in but the bottom will not fit far enough down to latch. Perhaps the screw problem mentioned above. Joe
