Leica IIIc flash settings

Anyone know where I can find (online) the correct flash setting for my Leica IIIc (converted to a IIIF w/synch) for X settings. There is a setting wheel below the shutter speed dial that has various increments of delay for flash synch. Instead of blowing a roll of 36 exp to find out the correct delay, I was hoping someone on the board may be able to point me to a site that has the correct delay setting for "X" or electronic flash. It has allot of delay settings but these were for various delay times of flash bulbs back in the day. Thanks in advance for any assistance anyobe can provide.

Summitar,

I remember reading some reference to this flash delay wheel on the Matanle's book, I'll take a look at home to see if he mentions how to set it for a normal electronic flash.

Taffer, is that Matanle book the huge volume with information and instructions for all the Leicas made up to 1962? I saw one like that in our library... however, I still cannot find the charm in Leica SM bodies. I had one in my hands but the VF turned me off. What a difference the M3 was, in comparison!

Glad you found your settings, Summitar!

Nope Francisco, the book in question is "Collecting and using Classic Cameras", by Ivor Matanle, a wonderful book that BTW seems a prelude to his second one "Collecting and using Classic SLRs".

I've both and they are great collector/user guides, albeit they give a more or less general overview upon all the available classic camera/classic SLR systems. Very pleasant reading too, well written, and last but not least, good photographs taken with the cameras featured in the books.

Take a look if you can locate one of them in the library, they are worth it :)

Hehe, the non-combined RF-VF seems a bit awkward, even more when you see how most FSU RF cameras have combined ones ;)

X synch

X synch

I believe you should have the setting at 0. This would mean no delay, that the flash will fire when the shutter is wide open, which is what you want with electronic flash.

The other settings are for various flashbulbs.
