Beautiful camera, Erik!
I've only got 2 war-time IIIc cameras with Chrome finish. If I didn't need a new car I'd be looking to expand my collection....right after a IIIcK .... *sigh*

I never had such a camera in my hand so just one question: Is this pinhole in the upper left corner (picture #3) really a viewfinder? Isn't it absolutely small?
The first "pinhole" from the left is the RF, the second is the VF. Very small by today's standards but not unusual for the time. I wear glasses and it's just possible to see the outer edges -- which is more than can be said for a Retina I, for example.
Still, I do wonder sometimes how many glasses-wearing customers Leica lost to Contax in those years.

Thank you for the information. Besides that the camera looks great.

The black paint and non standard shutter guard make me think it was someones custom camera build. I wonder if it has any non standard things inside? It does look nice and a good working IIIc is a wonderful camera. Congratulations and Enjoy. Joe

The texture of the paint and the "chippy-ness" of the wear points at a repaint to me.

I agree that it's probably repainted, but it is nicely done, and with an interesting texture. I have a IIIc with messed up chrome that I intend to strip and repaint. I am concerned about having enough open space left in the engravings to be able to fill them in nicely with a white paint stick. I intend to use the super high gloss nitrocellulose paint that was used in the 30's, and have a spray can of it which seems to do a good job.
Anybody out there have some good advice on how to handle the engravings? What about something wild and crazy from the automotive paint world like laying down a thin coat of black, filling in the engravings and then spraying a clear coat on top??
Cheers,
Dez

Erik - could you please repost some pictures of your black paint IIIC? Looks like the links have died. I bought what I think is a black paint IIIC, serial #426XXX and want to see how it compares with yours.
Once it arrives I'll post some pictures of it.
Also does anyone have a MOOLY-C here? Do they work on any IIIC or is there some mechanical linkage that needs to be added to a camera?
