Saw this on the action site. I don't think I have ever seen a Barnack body with an obliterated serial number. Stolen perhaps? Seller appears reputable.
The number in the ad heading can't be right ( #1943570) as it is too high and puts the camera in 1993 (unless it is the shop's inventory number).
Warning: There are scratches.

You can see the seller's reflection in shutter release button.

Whatever
It’s a Leica II (D) model. A IIID is a totally different camera.
As far as the serial number goes, if it was 194357 that would put it to 1936. If it was 94357 that would put it to 1932.

Thanks @Vince Lupo. Makes sense.
Looks like they added a digit.

Just another hotel clerk
Oh, duh. Looking right at it and not noticing the lack of the low speed dial... 🤦♂️

Well-known
I bought this one 13 years ago. Never thought about the stolen possibility. I opened and cleaned everything (it was stuck and dirty) to make it works again. Inside I found what looked like a serial number, hand written: 121530. Now I wonder even more what story is behind it.

The camera is in so ugly condition, that I love it.
