Hello:

My Leica IIIf does not align perfectly at infinity. I don't have the time to fix this myself, but I would really appreciate the contact information for someone who can do this for me... I may as well CLA it...

Thanks,

Riccis

RF adjustment is not that difficult on these cameras. Lots of info on the web on howtodo. The secret is behind the little shiny screw in front. You will have to dismantle the camera to check focus with groundglass at the filmplane. Sounds difficult but quite easy really.

Be brave! Or have it done by a tech, ofcourse.

Rob:

Thanks, but I really don't have the time or energy to play around with the camera. Who are the recommended folks to do this type of work and CLA as soon as possible?

I will be traveling a lot soon and would like to bring this baby along as well.

Thanks,

Riccis

Youxin Ye will fix you up good, quick, and inexpensively...he did my iiif and m3. I'm not sure if he responds to phone calls, but he responds to emails pretty quickly.

Even when it is off, it doesn't matter a heck of a lot. Vertical alignment is something that has to be REALLY bad before I bother.

It's so easy to do, it'll take you more time to ship it. Youxin will likely charge less than shipping-sohave him do a full CLA if you send it to him.

Ummmm, assuming that it was previously correct and that you still have the lens with which you know it worked correctly, then you could just align the r/f using the adjuster and something very-far-away (moon or distant horizon) while keeping the lens-scale on infinity. That would take half an hour at most.

Extrapolating from a Zorki (which admittedly has a different shaped follower, and a different adjustment process), it might just be possible for this to be a symptom of a problem with the cam-follower, so have a quick look in the throat in case something is bent or twisted with the follower or arm.

I currently have an M4 and a Bessa-T, fixed at two different repair facilities, but neither of which aligns perfectly at infinity. Both think infinity is the exact same distance about 50 meters away. They do also agree to within the cm between 1.5 meter and 5 meter. Despite that I can't reach complete alignment on the double image at infinity, all pictures are perfectly in focus, and that's what counts for me.. I'd suggest doing the same, not bothering as long as pictures are in focus..
