Hi,

I've just bought a Leica IIIf w/ Summiar 5cm. It is really good condition and the lens is completely clear. However, the focus mechanism in the rangefinder does not appear to work. When looking through the rangefinder "round windows" from the front of the camera, the left window is very dark (you can only just about see through it). The right window (from the front of the camera) is very clear.

Is this to be expected or does this mean there is some problem with the rangefinder mirror and it will need repair? When I focus using the lever on the lens, nothing changes in the rangefinder - it is always a single image in focus. Any other thing that could be causing the problem?

If it needs repair, can anyone recommend a shop near Seattle, or will it need to go down the road to Oregan!!!

The only other issue appears to be a fairly stiff aperture ring.

Thanks all!

Hi I live near Seattle. I have had a few of these cameras & you need to send it in for repair. I have sent mine to Youxin Ye. He can fix that problem for you. His email is we7@yahoo.com he charges about $80-$120.00 for a CLA on that camera. Email him about your problem, I have had good luck with him & fast turn around.

Youxin has replaced the Beamsplitter on several of my screwmount Leica's. He did a great job. I've sent him 7 cameras to work on.
