Leica IIIg Production Dates?

I've been doing some research on the Leica IIIg. Much of the information I have come up with states the Leica IIIg was first introduced in 1957. However, early serial numbers listed in Hove collecter guides indicate there were several production runs in 1956. Does this mean the first Leica IIIg bodies were produced in 1956, but not sold until 1957??

the official production stopped in 1960 but a handful were assembled during the later years of that decade.

Wow, Chris! Thanks for the link. That list makes the one in my expensive 600 page Hove Collector's Guide look pathetic.

I wish Stephen would better organize his site. I've been scrounging around Cameraquest for years and never came across that list. What else am I missing?
